6 Fashion Trends for Spring that we need to understand now.

Hello My Coco Girls!!

It is the year 2022 and it has never being as exciting as it is now to know about fashion trends. The main reason... the pandemic. Finally, fashion shows have officially entered the scene as of last season and we have more knowledge as to what the consumer will be pursuing and their behavior. As much as I love fashion we need to be aware of the social-economic circumstances that are pushing this changes or so called trends. Some say that trends are over but that is so far from the truth specially when we know we will be conditioned to these trends. This is how the industry works and it is called the FASHION CYCLE but that is for another blog talk. Let's start...

According to VOGUE there are 10 fashion trends we need to know about but I will resume that to just 6. More than that I will explain the reason behind each one of them.

1.MICRO

Hemlines are higher than ever but let's not forget that after a year of economic debacle big brands will have to lower costs on production. No surprise there...cutting down on materials is a smart move. You will see this trend in mini skirts, crop tops and short dresses. Micro Mania is here to stay because more than a trend it is smart business.

2. MOTORCYCLE DIARIES

I still remember back in the day when I was making a fashion collections for Puerto Rico High Fashion Week and told them about making a spring collection inspired in motorcycles which usually is more common for fall because people associated bikes with black and leather. They loved it and it was a beautiful.

It is a 90's mood with a more distressed finish and oversized fit and lots of zips. Two materials or fabrics you will be seeing for this trend is denim and leather. Yes! Leather for spring! You heard that right but is not a heavy leather is more of a suede lightweight fabric that will be great for small pieces like vests or cropped jackets.

Pretty smart if you  want to still use left over materials from last season. You see there's a reason for everything in this world.

3. LOTS OF COLOR

One way to make a collection interesting without spending a lot on patterns, fit ,  cuts, finishes etc is with the smart use of color and let me tell you why this is also great. We need to embrace life after this past two years so designers have welcome color not only because it is smart but because is also a celebration that the world is slowly going back to normal. Catwalks are officially back and the economy will be on track hopefully. Let's not forget spring is when everything blooms and color is back on nature as winter ends. So it is also very symbolic too. This trend is also referred to as DOPAMINE DRESSING and for some bright colors is what boosts their mood but really  is more about wearing the clothes that make you feel happy and bring us joy.

4. LINES

Stripes are a great way to make an optical illusion without creating cuts in fabrics making this print an excellent choice for manufacturers when it comes to production costs. Less cuts means less hours in production costs. We can also benefit from this, if you know what works best for your body you can bet that lines can become your new best friend.  Stripes also give us reference to nautical vibes which is also a trend that never gets old for these warmer seasons.

5. WHITES

This is as easiest as it gets. Whites are always a classic and so easy to wear. Great for color blocking too! It is a safe and great choice to mix with any trend.

6. SKIN

Well, it is the beginning of summer after all...  Skin is in! Anything super sheer, super tight and super short it's always sexy. This comes great for production cost too  because the less fabric you use the less sewing is involved. Less inlays less sewing- - - - -

As much as we love fashion we need to understand how fashion works and choose what works for us. I hope that now you can understand a little bit more on trends and why they become "popular"... At the end of the day the fashion industry is one of the most lucrative business and numbers need to make sense. After all a fashion trend signifies a specific look or expression that is spread across a population at a specific time and place.

Which reminds me of the movie The Devil Wears Prada and that Cerulean Blue Scene.  FANTASTIC!

See you on Insta!
